Dua for Patience and Strength When Facing Addiction Relapse

Patience & Sabr
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 1/391

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or have taught to any one of Your creation, or have revealed in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, the light of my breast, the banisher of my grief, and the reliever of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduk, ibnu 'abdik, ibnu amatik, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabik, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

This powerful dua, known for its comprehensive scope, directly addresses the emotional and mental burdens associated with addiction. By seeking refuge in Allah and asking for the Qur'an to be the source of solace, it helps to: 1. **Soothe the heart:** 'The delight of my heart' can bring comfort and peace, counteracting the turmoil addiction creates. 2. **Illuminate the path:** 'The light of my breast' helps to clarify thoughts and decisions, guiding you away from relapse. 3. **Alleviate sorrow:** 'The banisher of my grief' provides immense relief from the sadness and despair that often accompany addiction struggles. 4. **Remove anxieties:** 'The reliever of my worries' helps to ease the constant mental preoccupation and stress associated with addiction.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Ibn Mas'ud said: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'No person suffers any anxiety or grief, and then says: O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your decree concerning me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or have taught to any one of Your creation, or have revealed in Your Book, or have preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart, the light of my breast, the banisher of my grief, and the reliever of my worries, except that Allah will remove his anxiety and grief, and replace them with relief.' So it was said: 'O Messenger of Allah, should we not learn these words?' He said: 'Yes, indeed! It is essential for everyone who hears them after me to learn them.' (Musnad Ahmad)
