Dua for Patience and Strength Through Parental Loss

Patience & Sabr
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 918

Indeed, we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. O Allah, grant me reward in my affliction and recompense me with that which is better.

Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma-jurni fī muṣībatī, wakhlif lī khayran minhā.

This is a profound promise of divine comfort and recompense, ensuring that even in the face of profound loss, there is hope for something greater.

Source & Authentication

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: "There is no Muslim who is afflicted by a calamity and though he recurs to that which Allah has commanded him to say: 'Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma-jurni fī muṣībatī, wakhlif lī khayran minhā,' but Allah will grant him reward for his affliction and give him better in exchange for it." Umm Salamah added: "When Abu Salamah died, I said this very supplication. Allah then gave me a better substitute than Abu Salamah, i.e., the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)."
