Dua for Patience and Steadfastness When Tempted

Patience & Sabr
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2660

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِكَ

O Turner of the hearts, make my heart firm upon Your religion.

Ya muqallibal-qulubi, thabbit qalbi 'ala dinik.

When to Read

Recite this whenever you feel the pull of temptation, or when facing situations that test your resolve. It's particularly beneficial during times of doubt, uncertainty, or when exposed to influences that might lead you astray. Making it a regular part of your supplications, especially after prayers, can build a strong foundation of spiritual resilience.

How to Read

Recite this supplication with sincerity and a focused heart. Understand that your heart is in the hands of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and that He is the only one who can grant you steadfastness. Visualize your heart being anchored to the truths of Islam as you make the dua. It's recommended to raise your hands during dua, though not strictly required for this specific supplication.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua directly addresses the core of our struggle against temptation: the heart. By asking Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) to keep our hearts firm on His deen, we are seeking the ultimate protection against misguidance and wavering faith. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua because our resolve is often tested by the fluctuating desires and external pressures of life. Steadfastness in faith is a sign of a strong believer, and this supplication is a direct means to achieve it.

Source & Authentication

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Indeed, the heart of every one of you is between the fingers of the Merciful (Allah) like the single [item] of a single [object], He changes it however He wills.' Then he said: 'O Allah, Controller of the hearts, keep our hearts firm upon Your religion.'
