Dua for Patience and Steadfastness in the Face of Betrayal

Patience & Sabr
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2708

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the disappearance of Your blessings, and the change of Your protection, and the suddenness of Your punishment, and all of Your anger. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the distress of affairs, and the evil of destiny, and the rejoicing of enemies, and the burden of debt.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawali ni'matik, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatik, wa fu'ja'ti niqmatik, wa jami'i sakhatik. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adalil-amr, wa su'il-qada', wa shamatatil-a'daa', wa dala'id-dayn.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua encompasses seeking refuge from many forms of hardship, including the loss of blessings, a decline in well-being, unexpected punishment, and Allah's displeasure. By extension, it helps one face betrayal by asking for protection against the resulting distress ('adal al-amr), the negative consequences of a bad outcome ('su' al-qada'), the taunting of those who wish you ill ('shamatat al-a'daa'), and overwhelming burdens. It fosters patience by reminding us that these worldly trials are often tests, and our ultimate recourse is always to Allah.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'adalil-amr, wa su'il-qada', wa shamatatil-a'daa', wa dala'id-dayn.' (Sahih Muslim 2708)
