Dua for Patience and Steadfastness in Repaying Debts

Patience & Sabr
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief. I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness. I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess. And I seek refuge in You from the burden of debt and the tyranny of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.

How to Read

This beautiful dua should be recited with a sincere heart and a clear intention. Raise your hands as you would in prayer, facing the Qiblah if possible. It is best recited in the morning and evening, as taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in other ahadith concerning seeking refuge.

Virtues & Benefits

Seeking refuge in Allah from the burden of debt and the tyranny of men acknowledges that true strength and relief come only from Him. This dua not only seeks protection from the hardship of debt but also from the mental anguish (worry and grief), physical inability (helplessness and laziness), and character flaws (cowardice and stinginess) that can exacerbate financial difficulties. By invoking Allah's protection, one finds inner peace and the resolve to manage their affairs with patience and wisdom, trusting in Allah's provision and support.
