Patience & Sabr
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى.

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.

When to Read

This dua is excellent to recite regularly, especially when you feel impatience or discouragement in your search for a spouse. Recite it after your obligatory prayers, or at any time you are making personal supplication (dua). It's particularly beneficial during times of personal reflection, like when you're fasting or in the last third of the night.

How to Read

Raise your hands in supplication as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us. Begin by praising Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, believing that Allah (Glorified is He) will respond. Understand the meaning of each request: guidance to the right path, God-consciousness, purity in conduct and thought, and inner richness that frees you from neediness.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua encapsulates the essence of seeking what is truly beneficial in life, both worldly and in the Hereafter. Seeking guidance (huda) helps you make sound decisions in your search, while piety (tuqa) keeps you mindful of Allah's commands and boundaries. Asking for chastity ('afaf) is crucial in maintaining one's honor and purity before marriage, and contentment (ghina) ensures that you are not driven by desperation or material desires but by seeking a partner for the sake of Allah. This prayer helps cultivate the inner strength and virtue necessary for a healthy and blessed marriage.
