O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is forever established. Your justice concerning me is inevitable. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed in Your Book, or taught to any of Your creation, or kept unto Yourself in the knowledge of the unseen which is with You, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the solver of my worries.

Humaid bin 'Abdur-Rahman narrated that some companions of the Prophet ﷺ said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, the polytheists say that you are being tempted (by Satan)." He said: "The polytheists have not said it, but when I was with them, I was afflicted with a severe illness. Then, when I came back to them, I was afflicted with something similar to what I had experienced on the day I was afflicted. So, I was tempted, and I began to think about what I had seen. So, I went to the door of my tent, and there I heard a voice from above, and another from below. So, I ascended and heard a voice from above, saying: 'O Muhammad, you are the Messenger of Allah, and Gabriel is the Angel.' The polytheists asked me: 'Are you bewitched?' I said: 'I have been tempted, and I have been afflicted with something that you have been afflicted with.' Then I recited the following dua: Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitābika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabī'a qalbī, wa nūra sadri, wa jalā'a huznī, wa dhahāba hammi. So Gabriel came to me and said: 'O Muhammad, you are the Messenger of Allah, and Gabriel is the Angel.' Then he recited to me: 'Say: He is Allah, the One.' (Surah Al-Ikhlas) And he said: 'Say: O disbelievers.' (Surah Al-Kafirun) until the end of the Surah. Then Gabriel said: 'So, you have been tempted and afflicted.' And he added: 'So, when you see something that you dislike, then recite: Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibnu 'abdika, ibnu amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka, sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw anzaltahu fi kitābika, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilmil-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'ala al-Qur'ana rabī'a qalbī, wa nūra sadri, wa jalā'a huznī, wa dhahāba hammi.' And the Prophet ﷺ said: 'So, Allah will remove your worry and your grief.' (The narrator mentioned that it was attributed to the Prophet that he said: "Indeed, this dua is for the one who is worried.")
