Verily we belong to Allah, and verily to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and grant me something better than it in exchange.
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma-jurni fī muṣībatī wa-khlif lī khayran minhā.

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: "There is no Muslim who is afflicted with a calamity and asks what Allah has ordained for him, saying: 'Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma-jurni fī muṣībatī, wa-khlif lī khayran minhā' (Verily we belong to Allah, and verily to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and grant me something better than it in exchange), but Allah will grant him reward for his affliction and give him something better in exchange." Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: When Abu Salamah died, I said: 'Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma-jurni fī muṣībatī wa-khlif lī khayran minhā.' Then Allah compensated me with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ (as a husband).
