Dua for Patience and Relief During Financial Hardship

Patience & Sabr
Sahih HadithMusnad Ahmad 3701

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your maidservant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is ever effective. Your judgment on me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to anyone from Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or preserved in the knowledge of the unseen with You, that You make the Qur'an the spring of my heart, and the light of my chest, the banisher of my grief, and the reliever of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

This powerful dua is excellent for recitation during times of distress, particularly when facing financial hardship. It can be recited any time you feel overwhelmed by debt, lack of provision, or the weight of financial worries. Make it a habit, especially after your obligatory prayers, or during the quiet moments of the night.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere conviction, focusing on the meaning of each word. Understand that you are approaching Allah, the Most High, acknowledging His complete control over all matters and His perfect justice. Raise your hands if possible, as is the Sunnah when making dua, and have a strong sense of hope and reliance (tawakkul) on Allah for relief and ease. Imagine the Qur'an as a source of comfort and guidance for your heart.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua combines acknowledging Allah's sovereignty and justice with a profound request to make the Qur'an a source of solace. By asking Allah to make the Qur'an the 'spring of your heart', you are seeking spiritual renewal and joy. Making it the 'light of your chest' signifies clarity and dispelling darkness. The request to be the 'banisher of your grief' and 'reliever of your worries' directly addresses the emotional burden of hardship. This dua helps to reframe your perspective, shifting focus from the material problem to the ultimate spiritual solution and divine support.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua to a man who complained of distress and anxiety. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Shall I teach you words that, if you say them, Allah will remove your distress and pay off your debts?' The man said: 'Yes, indeed.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Say every morning and evening: Allahumma inni 'abduka, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyati biyadika, madin fiyya hukmuka, 'adlun fiyya qada'uka, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa laka sammayta bihi nafsaka, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqika, aw anzaltahu fi kitabika, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm-il-ghaybi 'indaka, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.'
