إِنَّا لِلَّٰهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ أجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْنِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
We belong to Allah, and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in this calamity and compensate me with something better than it.
Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma ajirnī fī muṣībatī wa akhlifnī khayran minhā.

Virtues & Benefits
This is the supplication of a Muslim when afflicted by a calamity. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'Any Muslim who is afflicted by a calamity and remembers it (the calamity) as Allah has commanded him to say: 'Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma ajirnī fī muṣībatī wa akhlifnī khayran minhā.' Allah will then grant him a compensation of what is better than that.' (Sahih Muslim 918). This hadith assures us that by uttering this dua, Allah Himself promises a better compensation, fostering patience and trust in His plan.

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I heard Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) say: 'There is no Muslim who is afflicted by a calamity and remembers it (the calamity) as Allah has commanded him to say: 'Innā lillāhi wa innā ilayhi rāji'ūn. Allāhumma ajirnī fī muṣībatī wa akhlifnī khayran minhā.' Allah will then grant him a compensation of what is better than that.' Umm Salamah said: 'And when Abu Salamah died, I said (the words) Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) commanded me, and Allah gave me a better substitute than Abu Salamah (i.e. I married Allah's Messenger (ﷺ)).'
