Patience & Sabr
Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 3976

O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female-servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to any of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept with You in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my grief, and a reliever of my worries.

Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukkumuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiq, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.

When to Read

This powerful dua is particularly suited for moments when unexpected news arrives, whether it's a personal setback, a challenging situation, or information that weighs heavily on your heart. It's a comprehensive supplication that, when uttered with sincerity, helps to ground you in your faith and seek divine solace. You can recite it at any time, but it’s especially beneficial during times of distress and uncertainty.

How to Read

Begin by acknowledging your complete dependence on Allah (SWT). Recognize that your life, your destiny, and all affairs are ultimately in His hands. Recite this dua with a sincere heart, focusing on the meaning of each phrase. It's a beautiful supplication that turns towards the Qur'an as a source of comfort and guidance. Speak directly to Allah, pouring out your reliance and your requests. Make it a habit to turn to this dua whenever you feel overwhelmed by news or circumstances.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication directly asks Allah (SWT) to make the Qur'an a source of spiritual renewal and peace for the heart, illumination for the chest, and a means to dispel sorrow and anxiety. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to a man who complained of worry and distress, and by reciting it, Allah (SWT) removed his worries. This highlights its efficacy in seeking relief from mental and emotional burdens through the power of Allah's words (the Qur'an) and through sincere supplication.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: 'Allah, the Exalted, said: 'O son of Adam, if you supplicate to Me and ask Me for forgiveness, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, if you were to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the heavens, and then were to die without associating anything with Me, I would come to you with forgiveness nearly as great as that.' And it was narrated from him (peace be upon him) that he used to seek refuge with Allah by these words: 'Allahumma inni 'abdika, ibn 'abdika, ibn amatika, nasiyatii biyadika, madin fiyya hukkumuk, 'adlun fiyya qada'uk, as'aluka bikulli ismin huwa lak, sammayta bihi nafsak, aw 'allamtahu ahadan min khalqik, aw anzaltahu fi kitabiq, aw ista'tharta bihi fi 'ilm il-ghaybi 'indak, an taj'al al-Qur'ana rabi'a qalbi, wa nura sadri, wa jila'a huzni, wa dhahaba hammi.' ('O Allah, I am Your servant, son of Your servant, son of Your female-servant. My forelock is in Your hand. Your command over me is effective. Your judgment upon me is just. I ask You by every name that You have called Yourself, or revealed to any of Your creation, or sent down in Your Book, or kept with You in the knowledge of the unseen, that You make the Qur'an the springtime of my heart, and the light of my chest, and a banisher of my grief, and a reliever of my worries.)'
