Virtues & Benefits
This beautiful dua, taught by our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, asks Allah for an encompassing 'light' (Noor). This light signifies knowledge, guidance, wisdom, and spiritual insight. For an elder facing age-related challenges, this light can illuminate understanding, foster acceptance of physical changes, and bring solace to the heart. It helps in perceiving difficulties not as burdens, but as tests that can be overcome with Allah's grace, thereby strengthening one's reliance (Tawakkul) on Him. The prayer for light in all directions (front, back, right, left, above, below) signifies seeking Allah's protection and guidance in every aspect of life, ensuring peace and contentment no matter the circumstances.

Narrated Abdullah: The Prophet ﷺ supplicated: 'O Allah, increase my knowledge, and my hearing, and my sight, and my spiritual insight, and my light, and my soul, and my ability to act upon what I know. And grant me increase in all goodness and make me content with what You have given me, and bless me in it, and give me sustenance in its place.' (Other versions include: 'O Allah, place light in my heart, and light in my tongue, and light in my hearing, and light in my sight, and light behind me and light before me, and light on my right and light on my left, and light above me and light beneath me. O Allah, increase me in light, and in strength.')
