Dua for Patience Amidst Unexpected Setbacks and Delays

Patience & Sabr
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3847

O Allah, I ask You for patience at the time of trial, and a good life at the time of contentment, and I ask You for Your pleasure after the decree. I ask You for the life of the happy, and victory after hardship, and manliness in the presence of family, and gratitude in times of ease, and healing after death, and sustenance on the Day of Reckoning, and safety on the Day of Presentation, and acceptance with the righteous, and steadfastness in all matters, and gratitude for Your favors, and mercy for Your Ummah, and success in Paradise, and salvation from the Hellfire. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.

*Allahumma inni as'aluka sabran 'indal-bala', wa hayatan tayyibatan 'indar-rida', wa as'aluka ridaka ba'dal-qada', wa as'aluka 'ishas-su'ada', wan-nasra ba'dal-'usr', wal-muru'ata 'indal-ahl', wash-shukra 'indar-rakha', wash-shifa'a ba'dal-mawt', wa qutan yawmal-hisab', wan-najata yawmal-'ard', wal-qabula 'indal-abrar', wath-thabata 'inda jami'il-umur', wash-shukra 'ala ni'amika, war-rahmah 'ala ummatik, wal-fawza bil-jannah, wan-najata minan-nar, innaka samiu'd-du'a'.*

Source & Authentication

It was narrated that Abu Hurairah said: "The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to teach his companions how to pray for guidance in all matters, just as he taught them a Surah from the Qur'an. He said: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in Your might, there is no god but You, that You cause me to live is the best; I ask You, O my soul, O my ears, O my eyes, O my hands, O my legs, O my whole body, to keep me away from the evil of this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for patience at the time of trial, and a good life at the time of contentment, and I ask You for Your pleasure after the decree. I ask You for the life of the happy, and victory after hardship, and manliness in the presence of family, and gratitude in times of ease, and healing after death, and healing from death, and sustenance on the Day of Reckoning, and safety on the Day of Presentation, and acceptance with the righteous, and steadfastness in all matters, and gratitude for Your favors, and mercy for Your Ummah, and success in Paradise, and salvation from the Hellfire. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.'" (Sunan Ibn Majah 3847)
