Patience & Sabr
Hasan HadithSunan An-Nasa'i 1305

O Allah, I ask You for steadfastness in all matters, and determination in pursuing righteousness. I ask You to enable me to be grateful for Your favors and to worship You in the best manner. I ask You for a sound heart and a truthful tongue. I ask You for the good You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil You know. I ask Your forgiveness for what You know, for indeed You are the Knower of all unseen.

Allahumma inni as'alukal-thabat fil-amr, wal-'azeemata 'alar-rushd, wa as'aluka shukra ni'matik, wa husna 'ibadatik, wa as'aluka qalban saleeman, wa lisaanan saadiqan, wa as'aluka min khairi ma ta'lam, wa a'udhu bika min sharri ma ta'lam, wa astaghfiruka lima ta'lam, innaka anta 'allamul-ghuyoob.

When to Read

This is a comprehensive supplication that can be recited anytime, but it is particularly beneficial during times of trial, uncertainty, or when seeking strength to face difficulties. It's an excellent dua to make regularly, perhaps after your obligatory prayers, to ask Allah for guidance and resilience in all aspects of life.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a focused heart. It's best to raise your hands in supplication, as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Believe in Allah's ability to answer your prayers and accept your supplication. Reflect on the meaning of each phrase as you recite it.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses seeking Allah's help for crucial qualities: steadfastness (ثبات - thabat) in our affairs, determination (عزيمة - 'azeemah) to stay on the right path, gratitude (شكر - shukr) for blessings, and excellence in worship (حُسْنُ عِبَادَة - husnu 'ibadah). It also asks for a pure heart (قلب سليم - qalb saleem) and an honest tongue (لسان صادق - lisan saadiq), which are cornerstones of a believer's character. By seeking refuge from all known evil and asking for forgiveness for all known wrongdoings, we are acknowledging Allah's complete knowledge and asking for His encompassing protection and mercy. This dua helps cultivate acceptance of Allah's will by acknowledging His wisdom and power over all matters, seen and unseen.
