My Lord, enable me to be grateful for Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and to do righteousness of which You approve. And admit me by Your mercy into [the company of] Your righteous servants.
Rabbi awzi'ni an ashkura ni'matakallati an'amta 'alayya wa 'ala walidayya wa an a'mala salihan tardahu wa adkhilni bi rahmatika fi 'ibadikas salihin.
When to Read
This dua is profoundly relevant for the elderly who have a lifelong aspiration to perform Hajj or Umrah but may face physical limitations or financial constraints. It can be recited at any time, but is especially potent when reflecting on the blessings of Allah, expressing gratitude, and seeking His assistance in fulfilling this significant act of worship, even if it's through making the intention and supplicating for the ability.
How to Read
Recite this verse with sincere intention and a humble heart. Understand that Allah (SWT) values the sincere aspiration and the effort made. Even if physical Hajj or Umrah becomes impossible due to old age or infirmity, continuing to make dua for it, and for Allah's acceptance of one's other good deeds, is a way of keeping the connection to this pillar of Islam alive. Focus on the aspect of seeking Allah's help ('awzi'ni' - enable me) to be grateful and to do righteous deeds that please Him.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua from Surah An-Naml is a comprehensive plea for divine enablement. It asks for the ability to be thankful for blessings, to perform deeds pleasing to Allah, and to be included among His righteous servants. For the elderly aspiring to Hajj or Umrah, it's a means to: 1. **Acknowledge Allah's Blessings:** Recognizing that the opportunity to even *aspire* to Hajj/Umrah is a blessing from Allah. 2. **Seek Divine Assistance:** Directly asking Allah to help them fulfill their desire, acknowledging that true ability comes only from Him. 3. **Focus on Righteous Deeds:** Shifting focus to what *can* be done โ expressing gratitude, performing other acts of worship, and seeking Allah's pleasure, even if the physical journey is not possible. 4. **Connect with the Righteous:** Aspiring to be in the company of the righteous, which is a reward in itself and can be achieved through sincere intention and action.
