โœฆ

O Allah, help me to remember You, to give thanks to You, and to worship You in the best way.

Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatika

When to Read

This is a foundational dua that can be recited at any time, but it is especially relevant as we age. When our physical strength wanes and our minds may become less sharp, it's crucial to seek Allah's help in maintaining our connection with Him. Recite it after every prayer (Salah) or at any point during the day when you feel the need for spiritual reinforcement.

How to Read

This dua is best recited with sincerity and a clear intention to implement its request. Raise your hands slightly as you make the supplication, focusing on the meaning of the words. It is recommended to say it at least three times, as the Prophet Muhammad ๏ทบ would often repeat his supplications. The etiquette of dua includes facing the Qiblah, being in a state of purity (Wudu), and having complete faith that Allah will respond.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua addresses the core of our relationship with Allah: remembrance (dhikr), gratitude (shukr), and excellent worship (husn 'ibadah). As we grow older, these acts become even more vital. Maintaining dhikr keeps the heart alive and connected to our Creator, preventing heedlessness. Shukr ensures we remain appreciative for Allah's blessings, preventing arrogance or discontent. And striving for 'husn ibadah' elevates our actions, making them more impactful and pleasing to Allah. By asking for help in these three areas, we are essentially asking for Allah to grant us the ability to remain steadfast in faith and practice until our last breath, which is a profound blessing in old age.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Mu'adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ๏ทบ took his hand and said: 'O Mu'adh, by Allah, I love you, and I say: O Allah, help me remember You, give thanks to You, and worship You in the best way.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 1522). This hadith, though narrated by Mu'adh, is a direct supplication taught and practiced by the Prophet ๏ทบ himself, indicating its immense importance.
