أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ
I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.
A'udhu bikalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq
When to Read
This powerful supplication is recommended to be recited in the morning. It's a vital part of our daily Adhkar (remembrance of Allah), setting a protective shield for our day ahead. Reciting it consistently helps us remain mindful of Allah's power to safeguard us from all forms of harm, including the subtle but potent effects of the evil eye.
How to Read
Recite this dua once in the morning. It's best to say it with sincerity and full conviction in Allah's ability to protect you. Imagine His perfect words forming a barrier around you. While the primary recommendation is once in the morning, many scholars also advise reciting it in the evening as well, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to seek refuge in Allah's words from the evil of His creation at all times.
Virtues & Benefits
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua as a means of protection. When asked by his grandson Al-Hasan ibn Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) about seeking refuge from the evil eye, the Prophet ﷺ said: "This is the supplication with which the seekers of refuge seek refuge." (Sahih al-Bukhari 5848). By reciting this, we are directly asking Allah, whose words are perfect and all-encompassing, to shield us from any ill effects originating from His creation. It instills a sense of reliance on Allah and affirms our belief in His ultimate power over all things, known and unknown.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, says: 'Whoever shows enmity to a person devoted to Me, I shall be at war with him. My servant draws not near to Me with anything more pleasing to Me than the religious duties I have enjoined upon him. My servant continues drawing near to Me with supererogatory prayers until I love him. When I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he strikes, and his leg with which he walks. Were he to ask Me for anything, I would certainly give it to him; were he to seek My protection, I would certainly protect him.'" (Sahih al-Bukhari 6137) And regarding seeking refuge from the evil eye: It was narrated that Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to seek refuge for Al-Hasan and Al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them both) saying: > **Arabic:** أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ > **Translation:** "I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every beast, and from every evil eye." > > Then he would say: "Your father (Abraham) used to seek refuge with these same words for Isma'il and Ishaq (peace be upon them)." (Sahih al-Bukhari 3105) The version in Sahih Muslim (2708) states: 'Uqbah ibn Amir said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to recite Al-Mu'awwidhatain (Surah Al-Falaq and Surah An-Nas) and this supplication: > **Arabic:** أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّاتِ مِنْ شَرِّ مَا خَلَقَ > **Translation:** 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created.'"
