Morning Dua for Strength to Awaken for Fajr Prayer

Morning Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 1603

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This dua is recited after the Fajr prayer, signifying a powerful start to the day by asking Allah for what is most beneficial. While not directly an 'awakening' dua, its recitation in the morning imbues the believer with the right intentions and spiritual focus needed to rise for Fajr in the first place. The aspiration for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and accepted deeds strengthens one's connection to Allah, which naturally encourages adherence to His commands, including the obligation of Fajr prayer.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and conviction after completing the obligatory Fajr prayer. It is best to raise your hands slightly as you would during supplication, though this is not a strict requirement. Focus on the meaning of the words and ask Allah with certainty.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his wife Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), is a cornerstone of the morning remembrance (adhkar). By asking for 'beneficial knowledge,' we seek understanding that guides us and increases our faith. 'Pure provision' asks for sustenance that is lawful and good, which in turn has blessings. 'Acceptable deeds' is the ultimate goal, ensuring our worship and actions are pleasing to Allah. This holistic request sets a tone for the entire day, making it easier to remain steadfast in all obligations, including waking for Fajr.

Source & Authentication

Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: Whenever the Prophet (peace be upon him) said the morning prayer, when he had concluded the prayer, he would say: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is useful, provision that is good and pure, and deeds that are accepted.'
