Morning Dua for Strength Against Temptation

Morning Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7:14

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This powerful supplication is recommended to be recited in the morning, after Fajr prayer. It's an excellent way to begin your day, seeking Allah's help in navigating the challenges and temptations that lie ahead. By asking for beneficial knowledge, you seek guidance to discern right from wrong. By asking for pure provision, you seek blessings that will not lead you astray. And by asking for acceptable deeds, you seek the ability to perform actions that are pleasing to Allah and help you resist wrongdoing.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with conviction in your heart. Raise your hands in supplication as you make this dua, just as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would do. Focus on the meaning of each word and truly ask Allah to grant you these three crucial elements for a righteous day. It's best recited while facing the Qiblah, with a clear mind and a humble heart.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is incredibly comprehensive. Beneficial knowledge (ilm naafi') is a shield against misguidance and temptation, helping you understand Allah's commands and the consequences of sin. Pure provision (rizq tayyib) ensures that your sustenance is lawful and blessed, preventing greed and unlawful desires from corrupting your actions. Acceptable deeds ('amal mutaqabbal) are those performed with sincerity and in accordance with the Sunnah, which serve as a bulwark against falling into forbidden acts. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would recite this specific dua upon waking, highlighting its immense importance in setting a righteous tone for the day and seeking protection against falling into sin and temptation.

Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her) that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would wake up in the morning, he would say: 'O Allah, I ask You for knowledge that is beneficial, and provision that is pure, and deeds that are acceptable.'
