اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.
When to Read
This is recited immediately after the Fajr (dawn) prayer, before speaking to anyone. It's a beautiful way to start your day, seeking Allah's blessings for knowledge, sustenance, and acceptance of your worship.
How to Read
Recite this supplication sincerely with conviction, raising your hands as was the practice of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when making dua. Focus on the meaning and the intention behind your request: seeking knowledge that benefits, provision that is pure and lawful, and deeds that Allah accepts.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua encapsulates three fundamental requests for a fulfilling life in this world and the hereafter. Beneficial knowledge guides us to do what is right and avoid what is wrong. Goodly provision sustains us and our families in a lawful manner, earning Allah's pleasure. Acceptable deeds are those performed with sincerity for Allah's sake, which bring us closer to Him. By asking for these, we are implicitly seeking Allah's guidance, sufficiency, and mercy, which fosters humility and gratitude for all that He bestows.
Source & Authentication
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: 'None of you should say, 'O Allah, forgive me if You wish; O Allah, have mercy on me if You wish.' He should rather decide his petition with all the firmness, for there is no one to force Him (to do whatever He likes).' Then he mentioned similar wording for two other matters, and in the narration of Muslim: 'The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, when asked 'Which dua is heard favourably?', replied: 'The dua made during the latter part of the night and after the obligatory prayers.' And in another narration: 'When the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ prayed the dawn prayer, he would say: اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.)
