Source & Authentication

It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say when he woke up at night: 'O Allah, praise be to You! You are the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth and whatever is in them. Praise be to You, O Allah, Owner of the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is in them. Praise be to You, O Allah, Light of the heavens and the earth and whatever is in them. Praise be to You, O Allah, Judge of the heavens and the earth. O Allah, I ask You by the Truth of Your Command and by the steadfastness of Your resolve, and I ask You by every Name that You have called Yourself with, or have taught to any one of Your creation, or have revealed in Your Book, or have stored in the unseen knowledge with You, that You make the Qur'an the delight of my heart and the light of my sight and the remover of my grief and the banisher of my anxiety.' Then he would say: 'O Allah, grant me light in my heart, and in my sight, and in my hearing, and to my right, and to my left, and above me, and beneath me, and before me, and behind me. And place in myself light, and in my creation light, and in my flesh light, and in my blood light, and in my hair light, and in my skin light. O Allah, grant me light, and make my greatness light.' He said: 'And he mentioned two other things.' He also said: 'And I ask You for the bounty of the night and the bounty of the day, and the bounty of the heavens and the bounty of the earth, and the bounty of what is between them. O Allah, make me one of those who, when they are good, rejoice, and when they are evil, seek forgiveness.' Then he would say: 'Glory be to You, O Allah, and praised. Blessed is Your Name, and exalted is Your majesty. There is no god but You.' - Sahih Muslim 767. The version used above is a more condensed form often recited as part of morning supplications.
