O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, and I seek refuge in You from helplessness and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overwhelmed by debt and by the oppression of men.
Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal
When to Read
This powerful dua is a cornerstone of the morning supplications. It's best recited immediately after Fajr prayer, before the day's activities fully commence. Making it a habit to say this at the start of your day sets a spiritual intention and seeks Allah's protection against internal and external obstacles that can hinder our progress, including the insidious trap of procrastination.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincere intention and heartfelt conviction. Raise your hands slightly in supplication, as the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us is a sign of earnest begging from Allah. Focus on the meaning of each phrase, truly feeling the need for Allah's help in overcoming these specific ailments of the heart and soul, particularly laziness ('kasal') which directly relates to procrastination. Repeat it consistently each morning.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua directly addresses key elements that fuel procrastination: worry (hamm), grief (hazan), helplessness ('ajz), laziness (kasal), cowardice (jubn), and stinginess (bukhl). By seeking refuge in Allah from these, we are actively warding off the very forces that lead us to delay tasks. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself would often say this dua. Seeking Allah's protection from 'kasal' (laziness) is a direct plea against the inertia that defines procrastination. Overcoming this laziness is the first step towards productivity and fulfilling our responsibilities, for Allah's sake.
