Morning Dua for Divine Assistance in Overcoming Obstacles

Morning Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and overwhelmed by men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabad-dayni wa qahrir-rijali.

When to Read

This is a powerful dua to recite in the morning, after Fajr prayer. It’s specifically for seeking Allah’s protection and assistance as you face the challenges of the day. Reciting it sets a tone of reliance on the Divine for strength and resilience, especially when you anticipate difficulties or feel burdens weighing on you.

How to Read

Make this dua with sincere intention and a heart full of reliance on Allah. Raise your hands as you would in supplication, facing the Qiblah if possible. Speak the words with clarity and reflection, truly feeling the meaning behind each phrase. It is best recited immediately after finishing your morning remembrance (adhkar) after Fajr.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua asks for refuge from several profound trials of life: * **Anxiety and Sorrow (Al-Ham wal-Hazan):** Protection from mental and emotional distress that can paralyze us. * **Incapacity and Laziness (Al-'Ajz wal-Kasal):** Seeking help to overcome a lack of ability or the tendency to be idle, which hinders progress. * **Cowardice and Stinginess (Al-Jubn wal-Bukhl):** Shielding against fear that prevents doing good and miserliness that prevents generosity and fulfilling obligations. * **Debt and Overwhelming Men (Ghalabat ad-Dayn wa Qahr ar-Rijal):** A specific plea for relief from overwhelming financial burdens and the oppression or dominance of others. By seeking refuge from these, we are essentially asking Allah to empower us to face our daily struggles with courage, determination, and steadfastness.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to teach his companions to say these words in the morning and evening: 'Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fid-dunya wal-akhirati. Allahumma inni as'alukal-'afwa wal-'afiyata fi dini wa dunyaya wa ahli wa mali. Allahumma-stur 'awrati wa amin raw'ati. Allahumma-hfadhni min bayni yadayya wa min khalfi wa 'an yameeni wa 'an shimalee, wa min fawqi, wa a'udhu bi'adhamatika an ughtala min tahti.' (O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in this world and the Hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion, worldly affairs, family, and wealth. O Allah, conceal my private parts and make me feel secure from distress. O Allah, guard me from before me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your Greatness from being attacked from beneath me.)' And he also used to say: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhli, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from anxiety and sorrow, and I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from being overcome by debt and overwhelmed by men.)
