اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا.
O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure sustenance, and deeds that are accepted.
Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman nafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.
When to Read
This dua is specifically for the morning. It's best recited right after waking up and completing the obligatory Fajr prayer, as part of your morning remembrance (adhkar). Imagine yourself ready to face the day, turning to Allah first to ask for what truly matters.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and focus, turning your heart towards Allah. Visualize the meaning as you say it: seeking knowledge that benefits you and others, sustenance that is lawful and good, and actions that are pleasing to Him. Raise your hands slightly if you wish, as is customary for supplication.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua encapsulates three essential aspects for a blessed day and a well-rounded life: 1. **Beneficial Knowledge ('ilman nafi'an):** This isn't just academic knowledge, but knowledge that guides your actions, strengthens your faith, and allows you to serve Allah better. It's knowledge that benefits you in this life and the next. 2. **Pure Sustenance (rizqan tayyiban):** This refers to provisions that are lawful (halal), good in their nature, and sufficient for your needs. It’s a plea for barakah (blessing) in whatever Allah provides, whether it's wealth, health, or family. 3. **Accepted Deeds ('amalan mutaqabbalan):** This is perhaps the most crucial part. We can do many deeds, but will they be accepted by Allah? This dua asks that our efforts, whether big or small, are performed sincerely for His sake and meet His standards, leading to reward. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would often supplicate for these very things, showing us their immense importance. (Refer to Sahih Muslim 7:52 for the full hadith context.)
Source & Authentication
Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): The Prophet (peace be upon him) would often say, after the Fajr prayer: > **Arabic:** اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا. > **Translation:** 'O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, pure sustenance, and deeds that are accepted.'
