Morning Dua for a Tongue Free from Lies and Deceit

Morning Adhkar
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 7/52

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا، وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا، وَعَمَلاً مُتَقَبَّلاً.

O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.

Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.

When to Read

This dua is specifically recited after Fajr (morning) prayer. It's part of the recommended Adhkar (remembrances) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would say upon completing his morning prayers, setting a tone of seeking good and purity for the day ahead.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely with full conviction after you have finished the obligatory Fajr prayer. It's a moment of quiet reflection before engaging with the world. Pause for a moment to consider what you are asking Allah for: knowledge that benefits, sustenance that is pure, and deeds that are accepted by Him. The intention behind the dua is as important as the words themselves.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua encapsulates the core of what a believer should seek for their day. By asking for 'beneficial knowledge', we seek understanding that brings us closer to Allah and helps us navigate life correctly. 'Goodly provision' ensures our sustenance is lawful and blessed, free from anything that might displease Allah or harm us. Crucially, asking for 'acceptable deeds' means we seek Allah's grace for our actions to be valid in His sight, which is the ultimate goal. This prayer helps purify our intentions and actions for the entire day, aligning our efforts with divine pleasure.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her): Whenever the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ had prayed the morning (Fajr) prayer, he would say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka 'ilman naafi'an, wa rizqan tayyiban, wa 'amalan mutaqabbalan.' (O Allah, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, goodly provision, and acceptable deeds.)
