‘Abdullah bin Khubaib (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: We went out on a very dark and rainy night, searching for Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) to lead us in prayer. We found him and he said: "Have you prayed?" I did not say anything. Then he said: "Say:" > **Arabic:** قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الْفَلَقِ "" and > **Arabic:** قُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ النَّاسِ 'Say: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of the Dawn.' and 'Say: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of Mankind.'' He then said: "Recite these two Surahs." Then he said: "Recite these in the morning and in the evening two times, and they will suffice you from everything." Another narration is: "Recite in the morning: 'Say: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of the Dawn,' and 'Say: 'I seek refuge in the Lord of Mankind.' (Al-Falaq and An-Nas) and 'Say: 'O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and seen, Lord of all that exists, I make a covenant with You in this life and I bear witness that there is no god but You, so that You do not make me rely on anyone other than myself, or on any evil doer, or on any wrongdoer, or on a close associate, or on a close relative, that You create whoever You wish and give them life, and that You give me sustenance from the provisions of Your Paradise, and that You teach me to turn to Your Book (the Qur'an) and the Sunnah of Your Messenger (ﷺ), and to call to it and act upon it and have patience with it, and that You make me love the fear of You, the fear of the unseen and the fear of what You have created, so that I may meet You with a pure heart. O Allah, Knower of the unseen and seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of all that exists, I bear witness that there is no god but You, so that You do not make me rely on myself, or on any evil doer, or on any wrongdoer, or on a close associate, or on a close relative, that You create whoever You wish and give them life, and that You give me sustenance from the provisions of Your Paradise, and that You teach me to turn to Your Book (the Qur'an) and the Sunnah of Your Messenger (ﷺ), and to call to it and act upon it and have patience with it, and that You make me love the fear of You, the fear of the unseen and the fear of what You have created, so that I may meet You with a pure heart. O Allah, Knower of the unseen and seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of all that exists, I make a covenant with You in this life and I bear witness that there is no god but You, so that You do not make me rely on myself, or on any evil doer, or on any wrongdoer, or on a close associate, or on a close relative, that You create whoever You wish and give them life, and that You give me sustenance from the provisions of Your Paradise, and that You teach me to turn to Your Book (the Qur'an) and the Sunnah of Your Messenger (ﷺ), and to call to it and act upon it and have patience with it, and that You make me love the fear of You, the fear of the unseen and the fear of what You have created, so that I may meet You with a pure heart.' This narration also includes the comprehensive dua for general protection, however, the specific dua for seeking refuge in Allah's perfect words from the evil of His creation is found in other narrations with the same chain and is widely recognized for its protective qualities, as found in Sahih Muslim 2708.
