Looking in Mirror
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2739

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the demise of Your blessings, and from the change of Your protection, and from the suddenness of Your vengeance, and from all Your displeasure. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the destruction of what I have built, and from falling on my face, and from panic in hardship, and from the evil of divine decree, and from the evil of this world and the next.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min zawaali ni'matika, wa tahawwuli 'afiyatika, wa fujaa'ati niqmatika, wa jamee'i sakhatik. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min hadmi mabnaya, wa min suqootin 'ala wajhi, wa minal fara'i 'indash-shadeed, wa min sui'il qadaa'i, wa min sharri ad-dunya wal-aakhirah.

‘Uthman b. ‘Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: ‘No servant has been afflicted with an affliction and says: Praised be Allah, the Lord of the worlds, O Allah, [grant me reward] in this affliction, and give me that which is better than it, or [if it is Your will that it should continue] then give me patience until You make me content with it – but Allah would give him that which is better than it. ‘Abdullah b. al-Mubarak said: He said: O Allah, I ask You for my well-being in this life and the next. O Allah, I ask You for forgiveness and well-being in my religion and my worldly affairs, and my family and my property. O Allah, conceal my faults and ease my anxieties. O Allah, guard me from in front of me and from behind me and from my right and from my left and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your might from being done away with from beneath me. He said: He (the noble Prophet) said: And I (also) seek refuge in your might from being done away with from beneath you. And ‘Abdullah b. al-Mubarak said: O Allah, I ask You for contentment after Your decree, and coolness of life after death, and sweetness of looking at Your Face, and yearning for meeting You, without any hardship and any trial causing misguidance. O Allah, we ask You for the strength to obey You, and the strength to refrain from disobeying You, and sincerity in the affair, and we ask You for a truthful heart and a truthful tongue, and we seek refuge in You from the evil of what you know. And we ask You for good, and we ask You for the good that Your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked for, and we seek refuge in You from the evil from which Your Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) sought refuge. And we ask You for Paradise and what brings us closer to it in word or deed, and we seek refuge in You from the Fire and what brings us closer to it in word or deed. And we ask You that You make every decree that You decree for us good. This Hadith is also narrated by Muslim with a slight variation in wording. [The dua provided in this entry is from another narration found in Sahih Muslim: 2739, which is more directly related to seeking refuge from afflictions and challenges, making it highly relevant when facing physical difficulties.]
