O Allah, grant my soul its piety, and purify it, for You are the Best Purifier. You are its Protector and its Master. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not humble itself, from a soul that is never satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered.
Allahumma ati nafsi taqwaha, wa zakkiha anta khayru man zakkaha, anta waliyyuha wa mawlaha. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsin la tashba', wa min du'a'in la yusma'.
When to Read
This dua is particularly relevant when you catch your reflection and feel a pang of vanity, or when you notice yourself becoming overly preoccupied with your appearance. It serves as a powerful reminder to turn our focus from the transient beauty of this world to the eternal, and to seek inner purity and contentment.
How to Read
Recite this dua with sincerity and humility. Understand that true beauty lies in the state of the heart and one's connection with Allah. It's a personal supplication, so whispering it while looking at your reflection, or shortly thereafter, can be an effective way to internalize its meaning and seek Allah's help.
Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive supplication addresses several critical aspects of spiritual well-being. By asking Allah to grant the soul piety (taqwa) and purify it, we seek protection against inner corruption and desires that deviate us from the Straight Path. Seeking refuge from useless knowledge, a hard heart, an insatiable soul, and unanswered prayers highlights the Prophet's ﷺ comprehensive concern for spiritual growth and acceptance in the Hereafter. It helps guard against arrogance and self-admiration, which can be subtle yet destructive influences when we see our own image.
