Looking in Mirror
Hasan HadithSunan Ibn Majah 3813

الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بِنِعْمَتِهِ تَتِمُّ الصَّالِحَاتُ

All praise is due to Allah, by Whose grace good deeds are completed.

Alhamdulillahil-ladhi bi-ni'matihi tatimmus-salihah

When to Read

This is a beautiful dua to recite at any time, but especially when you are feeling overwhelmed by the joys and responsibilities of raising children. It's a moment to pause, look at your children, and acknowledge that their very existence, and the ability to nurture them, is a profound gift from Allah. Recite it during quiet moments of reflection, perhaps when your child is sleeping peacefully, or when they do something that fills your heart with gratitude. It’s a reminder that even amidst the challenges, every good thing comes from Allah.

How to Read

Utter this dua with sincerity and humility. As you say 'Alhamdulillah', let your heart feel the weight of gratitude for all of Allah's blessings, particularly the lives of your children. Reflect on the journey from conception to their current stage – the sleepless nights, the first steps, the first words, their laughter. See each of these as direct manifestations of Allah's favor upon you. It's not just a recitation; it's a heartfelt acknowledgement directed towards your Creator.

Virtues & Benefits

This simple yet profound utterance is a direct connection to the principle of acknowledging Allah's favors, which is a cornerstone of faith. When we recognize that our children, our ability to care for them, and the joys they bring are all from Allah, it strengthens our Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and deepens our reliance on Him. It fosters contentment and prevents us from taking these immense blessings for granted. As the Quran states, 'And if you count the favors of Allah, you will not enumerate them.' (Surah Ibrahim 14:34). This dua helps us count, even if just a few, reminding us of His generosity and encouraging further gratitude.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you says: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي بِنِعْمَتِهِ تَتِمُّ الصَّالِحَاتُ (Alhamdulillahil-ladhi bi-ni'matihi tatimmus-salihah), then Allah says: 'My slave has spoken the truth.' When one of you says: الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ عَلَى كُلِّ حَالٍ (Alhamdulillah 'ala kulli hal), then Allah says: 'My slave has spoken the truth.' (Sunan Ibn Majah, Book of Supplication, Hadith 3813)
