Hasan HadithMusnad Ahmad 22611

اللَّهُمَّ أَحْسَنْتَ خَلْقِي فَأَحْسِنْ خُلُقِي، وَحَرِّمْ وَجْهِي عَلَى النَّارِ

O Allah, You have made my form beautiful, so make my character beautiful, and forbid my face from the Fire.

Allahumma ahsanta khalqi fa-ahsin khuluqi, wa harim wajhi 'alan-nar

When to Read

This beautiful dua is particularly potent when you look at yourself in the mirror. It acknowledges Allah's creation of your physical form and asks for His grace in perfecting your inner character. It's a moment of self-reflection that can be turned into an act of worship and a plea for divine protection.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and conviction while looking in the mirror. Focus on the meaning and internalize the request for both physical and spiritual well-being. It's a personal supplication, so speak from the heart, seeking Allah's protection and guidance.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encompasses a holistic request for well-being. By asking Allah to 'make my character beautiful,' we are seeking protection from harmful influences that can corrupt our manners, actions, and inner selves, which ultimately affect our outward appearance and how we present ourselves to the world. The second part, 'forbid my face from the Fire,' is a profound request for protection from Hellfire, a testament to the encompassing nature of this supplication. It reminds us that true beauty and lasting protection come from Allah.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn Mas'ud: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'One of the signs of Allah's favour is that one's appearance is good, and one's needs are met. And among the signs of his displeasure is that one's appearance is bad, and one's needs are not met.' And Abu Bakr Ibn Abi Shaibah narrated to us: It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah, from the Prophet (peace be upon him), that he said: 'O Allah, You have made my creation beautiful, so make my character beautiful, and forbid my face from the Fire.' (This is the wording of Abu Bakr. He also said: 'And my deeds'). And in the narration of Ibn Numayr: 'O Allah, You have made my creation beautiful, so make my character beautiful, and forbid my face from the Fire.' [Note: While the initial part of the hadith discusses signs of Allah's favor regarding appearance and needs, the specific dua is the latter part, emphasizing character and protection from the Fire. The narration in Ahmad is directly from the Prophet's supplication.]
