Dua for Peace of Mind When Noticing Signs of Fatigue in the Mirror

Looking in Mirror
Sahih HadithSahih al-Bukhari 6369

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wa a'udhu bika minal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wa a'udhu bika minal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa a'udhu bika min ghalabatid-dayni wa qahrir-rijal

When to Read

When you look in the mirror and notice signs of fatigue, weariness, or stress on your face, and you feel a sense of unease or sadness about it. This dua helps to ward off the internal struggles that often manifest externally.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and full awareness of its meaning. Direct your supplication to Allah, seeking His protection from these afflictions. It's best recited with conviction, especially when observing yourself in the mirror and feeling these emotions.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful dua, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his Companion Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), is a comprehensive seeking of refuge. It addresses not only external pressures like debt and oppression but also internal states like worry, grief, weakness, and laziness, which can contribute to the appearance of fatigue. By reciting it, we ask Allah to protect our mental and emotional well-being, which in turn can affect our physical appearance and overall state.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said to Abu Bakr: "O Abu Bakr, indeed I wish for you a wish, so say: 'O Allah, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Lord of everything and its Possessor, I bear witness that there is no god but You, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Shaitan and his associating partners with Allah.' (Saying this in the morning and evening). And say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the good of what You know, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of what You know, and I ask for Your Great Will and I ask for the deeds that involve the doing of what is right and abandoning what is wrong, and I ask for the love of the poor, and I ask You that You forgive me and have mercy on me. And when You intend to try a people, then take me to Yourself without trying them, and I ask You for Your love and the love of those who love You and the love of deeds that bring one nearer to Your love.'" Abu Bakr said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me some words I may say in the morning and in the evening." The Prophet said: "Say: 'O Allah, Knower of the unseen and the seen, Creator of the heavens and the earth, Lord of everything and its Possessor, I bear witness that there is no god but You. I seek refuge in You from the evil of my soul and from the evil of Shaitan and his associating partners with Allah.'" And when you wake up in the morning, say: 'O Allah, I ask You for the good of this day and the good of what comes after it. And I seek refuge in You from the evil of this day and the evil of what comes after it. O Allah, I ask You for Paradise and what brings me to it, from speech or action, and I seek refuge in You from the Fire and what brings me to it, from speech or action. And I ask You that You make what You decree for me to be a good outcome.'" Abu Bakr said: "O Messenger of Allah, teach me what I should ask Allah for in my requests." He said: "Say: 'O Allah, I ask You for well-being in this life and the hereafter. O Allah, I ask You for pardon and well-being in my religion and my worldly affairs, for my family and my property. O Allah, conceal my weaknesses and make me feel secure from what I fear. O Allah, guard me from in front of me and from behind me, from my right and from my left, and from above me, and I seek refuge in Your might from being annihilated from beneath me.'" He said: "And say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from worry and grief, and I seek refuge in You from incapacity and laziness, and I seek refuge in You from cowardice and stinginess, and I seek refuge in You from the overwhelming of debt and the subjugation of men.'" (Sahih Muslim 2706 also mentions this latter part with slightly different phrasing, and Sahih al-Bukhari 6369 is a concise version focusing on this specific dua).
