How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere intention and a reflective heart. Visualize your inner state as you ask Allah to improve it, just as you acknowledge His perfection in creating your outward form. It's a personal supplication that can be made anytime you see yourself in a mirror.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua connects our outward appearance to our inner character. By acknowledging Allah's beauty in our creation, we're prompted to seek His help in purifying our hearts and actions. This can be a catalyst for seeking forgiveness for past sins, as a beautiful character is one that strives to please Allah and avoid His displeasure. It reminds us that true beauty lies in pleasing Allah.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua when looking in the mirror. The narration in Musnad Ahmad states: 'The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say when he looked at himself in the mirror: Allahumma kama ahsanta khalqi, fa ahsin khuluqi (O Allah, just as You have made my physical form beautiful, make my character beautiful).' While this hadith is narrated in Musnad Ahmad, it is considered Hasan by some scholars due to its chain of narration. It highlights the Prophet's ﷺ emphasis on both inner and outer beauty, and the importance of asking Allah for help in refining one's character.
