Dua for Strength and Guidance When Feeling Invisible

Loneliness & Isolation
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2721

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ الْهُدَى وَالتُّقَى وَالْعَفَافَ وَالْغِنَى.

O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment (or self-sufficiency).

Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.

When to Read

This is a profound and comprehensive supplication that can be recited at any time, but it is particularly fitting when you feel overlooked or lost in the crowd. It's perfect for moments of quiet reflection, after obligatory prayers, or during the blessed times like the last third of the night. When the noise of the world drowns out your own voice, turning to this dua can be a powerful anchor.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity, focusing on the meaning of each word. Raise your hands as you would during supplication, beginning with praise of Allah and sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Believe in Allah's ability to hear you and respond. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua, so reciting it with the intention of following his Sunnah is also a beautiful aspect of its practice.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua encapsulates some of the most essential requests a believer can make. 'Guidance' (al-huda) is the light that leads us on the straight path. 'Piety' (at-tuqa) is the consciousness of Allah that prevents us from falling into sin. 'Chastity' (al-'afaf) encompasses purity in all aspects – of thought, speech, and action, leading to a dignified life. 'Contentment' (al-ghina) is the richness of the heart, feeling satisfied with what Allah has provided, which is the truest form of wealth. By asking for these, we are seeking holistic well-being, both spiritual and material, and a strong inner core that can withstand the feeling of invisibility.
