Our Lord, forgive us and our brothers who preceded us in faith and do not place hatred in our hearts toward those who have believed. Our Lord, indeed You are Kind and Merciful.

Rabbana ghfir lana wa li ikhwani-nal-ladhina sabaquna bil-imani wa la taj'al fi qulubina ghillan-lil-ladhina amanu Rabbana innaka Ra'ufun Rahim

When to Read

This dua is particularly poignant for those who have embraced Islam and find themselves distanced from their families, perhaps due to their conversion. It can be recited at any time, but especially during moments of loneliness, sadness, or when reflecting on the sacrifices made for faith. It's a powerful supplication to ask Allah to heal hearts, foster brotherhood within the Muslim community, and to extend His mercy to those who may be struggling with the new path.

How to Read

Recite this verse with sincere intention and deep reflection. Picture your family members in your heart as you ask Allah to forgive you and your believing brothers and sisters. Focus on the meaning of 'Rauf' (Kind) and 'Rahim' (Merciful) and ask Allah to fill your heart with love and remove any resentment towards fellow believers, while also asking for a softening of hearts towards your family. Raising your hands is a recommended etiquette for making dua, though not strictly required for Quranic supplications.

Virtues & Benefits

This verse is a direct supplication from the Quran, teaching us the importance of seeking forgiveness for ourselves and for those who came before us in faith. It highlights the need to purify our hearts from any ill-will towards fellow Muslims, fostering a strong sense of brotherhood and sisterhood. For converts facing familial challenges, it offers solace by reminding them that the wider Ummah is their spiritual family, and Allah is the ultimate source of kindness and mercy. It encourages patience and reliance on Allah during difficult times of social or familial isolation.
