O Allah, I seek refuge in You from distress and sorrow, from weakness and laziness, from cowardice and stinginess, from being overwhelmed by debt and by the overpowering of men.
*Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minal-hammi wal-hazani, wal-'ajzi wal-kasali, wal-jubni wal-bukhl, wa dala'id-dayni wa ghalabatir-rijal.*

Virtues & Benefits
This comprehensive dua addresses numerous spiritual and psychological ailments. By seeking refuge from distress (hamm) and sorrow (hazan), we are asking Allah to lift the heavy feelings that can weigh us down, including the specific sorrow of feeling alone even when with others. It helps in combating feelings of helplessness (ajz) and lethargy (kasal) that often accompany loneliness. The Prophet ﷺ taught us this dua to protect us from the anxieties and pressures of life, including the 'overpowering of men,' which can manifest as social anxiety or feeling misunderstood and disconnected from those around us.
