Dua for Guidance and Connection When Feeling Spiritually Lost in Isolation

Loneliness & Isolation
Hasan HadithSunan Abi Dawud 5075

O Allah, guide me and set me aright, and remember with Your well-being those who set me aright. Cause me to die among Your party, and make ample space between me and You. O Allah, Lord of all things, make my final outcome good.

Allahumma ihdini wa sadidni, wadhkur bi 'afiyatika man sadadani, wa tawaffani fi hizbik, waj'al bayni wa baynaka wasi'an, Allahumma Rabba kulli shay', ij'al 'aqibati ila khayr.

When to Read

Recite this dua when you feel a distance from Allah, especially during periods of isolation or loneliness. It's a profound plea for divine direction and a re-establishment of that vital connection when you feel it waning. Use it during tahajjud, after fard prayers, or any time you feel the need for spiritual recalibration.

How to Read

Recite with sincere intention and a humble heart. Focus on the meaning of each word, truly asking Allah to guide your steps and straighten your path. Imagine Allah's mercy surrounding you as you make this supplication. It's best recited with hands raised, as is the Sunnah for many duas, but it can also be recited in your heart or quietly after prayer.

Virtues & Benefits

This dua is a comprehensive request encompassing several vital aspects of a believer's relationship with Allah. It seeks direct guidance ('ihdini') and rectitude ('sadidni'), acknowledging our human fallibility. It also asks for Allah's constant care and remembrance for those who have guided us. The request for ample space between oneself and Allah ('waj'al bayni wa baynaka wasi'an') can be understood as seeking a deep, unhindered connection, free from sin or heedlessness. Finally, it asks for a good end, a testament to a life lived in His obedience.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abdullah ibn Abbas: I once passed the Prophet ﷺ when he was riding on his mount. He put his hand on my shoulder and said: 'O young man, remember Allah, and He will remember you. Remember Allah, and you will find Him before you. Know Allah in times of ease, and He will know you in times of hardship. When you ask, ask of Allah, and when you seek help, seek help from Allah. If you were to write down the entire Ummah of the jinn and humans to help you, they would not be able to help you except with something that Allah had already written for you. The pens have been lifted, and the pages have dried. O young man, I will teach you some words: Remember Allah, and He will remember you. Remember Allah, and you will find Him in front of you. Recognize Him in times of ease, and He will recognize you in times of hardship. Know that what has passed you by was not going to happen, and what has happened was not going to pass you by. Know that victory comes with patience, and relief comes with affliction, and ease comes with hardship.' Then he said: 'O Allah, guide me and set me aright, and remember with Your well-being those who set me aright. Cause me to die among Your party, and make ample space between me and You. O Allah, Lord of all things, make my final outcome good.'
