Dua for Finding Solace When Abandoned

Loneliness & Isolation
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 6901

O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not feel humbled, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.

Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsil la tashba', wa min du'a'in la yusma'. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.

When to Read

Recite this when you feel the sting of abandonment, whether by friends, family, or a partner. It's particularly helpful when you feel isolated and your pleas for connection or understanding seem unheard. You can say it during times of quiet reflection, after salah, or anytime you feel the weight of loneliness pressing down.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincerity and focus on the meaning of each phrase. Raise your hands as you do when making other duas, showing your reliance on Allah. Imagine Allah hearing your plea and extending His mercy. The key is genuine need and trust in His power to grant solace and a way out of your distress.

Virtues & Benefits

This comprehensive dua seeks Allah's protection from internal struggles (unbeneficial knowledge, unhumbled heart, insatiable soul) that can exacerbate feelings of loneliness and distress. It also directly asks for the acceptance of our prayers, which is crucial when feeling unheard. The latter part of the dua asks for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment, all of which equip a believer to handle difficult circumstances with grace and inner peace, transforming the pain of abandonment into a means of drawing closer to Allah.

Source & Authentication

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) used to seek refuge in Allah with these words: 'Allahumma inni a'udhu bika min 'ilmin la yanfa', wa min qalbin la yakhsha', wa min nafsil la tashba', wa min du'a'in la yusma'. Allahumma inni as'alukal-huda wat-tuqa wal-'afafa wal-ghina.' (O Allah, I seek refuge in You from knowledge that does not benefit, from a heart that does not feel humbled, from a soul that is not satisfied, and from a supplication that is not answered. O Allah, I ask You for guidance, piety, chastity, and contentment.)
