Dua for Comfort and Strength for Widows and Widowers Living Alone

Loneliness & Isolation
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 2713

O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Magnificent Throne! Our Lord and Lord of all things, the Cleaver of the seed and the date-stone, the Revealer of the Torah, the Gospel, and the Criterion (Quran)! I seek refuge in You from the evil of all things You are seizing by the forelock. O Allah, You are the First, and there is nothing before You; You are the Last, and there is nothing after You; You are the apparent, and there is nothing above You; You are the hidden, and there is nothing nearer than You. Discharges our debt and make us free from want.

Allahumma Rabba as-samawati as-sab'i wa Rabba al-'arshil-'azeem. Rabbana wa Rabba kulli shay', Faliqal-habbi wan-nawa, wa Munzil al-Tawrati wal-Injeeli wal-Furqan. A'udhu bika min sharri kulli shay'in anta akhidhun binasiyatih. Allahumma Antal-Awwalu falaysa qablaka shay', wa Antal-Akhiru falaysa ba'daka shay', wa Anta Adh-Dhahiru falaysa fawqaka shay', wa Antal-Batinu falaysa doonaka shay'. Iqdi 'anna daynana wa aghnina minal-faqr.

This comprehensive dua is perfect for anyone feeling overwhelmed, burdened by debt, or simply seeking Allah's protection and provision. For a widow or widower living alone, this dua can be particularly comforting, reminding them that they are never truly alone and that Allah is their ultimate guardian and provider. It's beneficial to recite this daily, especially in the morning, to invite Allah's blessings and ease into the day, and again in the evening for His protection.

How to Read

Recite this dua with sincere conviction, raising your hands as you do so. Focus on the meaning of each word, internalizing the vastness of Allah's dominion and His complete power over all things. Understand that you are entrusting your affairs to Him, seeking His sufficiency and protection from all harm. It is recommended to be in a state of wudu (ablution) when making dua, though it is not strictly mandatory. Praying with humility and a hopeful heart is key.

Virtues & Benefits

This supplication encapsulates a profound recognition of Allah's absolute sovereignty and power. It seeks refuge in His perfect words and attributes from all potential evils, acknowledging His role as the Creator and Sustainer of everything. The dua specifically asks Allah to pay off debts and alleviate poverty, providing immense relief for those struggling financially. For someone living alone, this dua reinforces the understanding that while they may be physically alone, they are always under Allah's watchful care and are never truly in need as long as they turn to Him. It fosters a sense of security and reliance on the Almighty, which is especially crucial when facing life's challenges without a partner. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to his companions when they asked him to teach them a dua they could recite when asking for their needs, indicating its comprehensive nature for seeking Allah's help in all matters.
