Dua for Allah's Mercy and Companionship Amidst Isolation

Loneliness & Isolation
Hasan HadithJami' at-Tirmidhi 3502

O Ever-Living, O Self-Subsisting Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help. Rectify for me all of my affairs and do not entrust me to myself for the span of an eye-blink.

Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum bi rahmatika astagheeth, wa aslih li sha'ni kullahu wa la takilni ila nafsi tarfata 'ayn.

When to Read

Recite this dua when you feel overwhelmed by loneliness, isolation, or a sense of being left to your own devices. It’s particularly potent when you’re facing a difficult situation alone or feeling distant from others, reminding you that Allah's presence and help are ever-available.

How to Read

This dua is a profound plea for Allah's direct intervention. Begin by sincerely calling upon Allah by His beautiful names, 'Al-Hayy' (The Ever-Living) and 'Al-Qayyum' (The Self-Subsisting Sustainer), as this invokes His unique power and independence. Then, articulate your need for His mercy and ask Him to manage all aspects of your life, acknowledging your own limitations. Maintain a state of humility and trust as you recite it.

Virtues & Benefits

This powerful supplication, taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to his daughter Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), is a comprehensive request for divine support. It centers on seeking Allah's mercy, which is the ultimate source of relief and well-being. By asking Him to rectify all affairs and not leaving us to ourselves, even for a moment, we acknowledge our complete dependence on Him. This fosters a deep reliance on Allah (tawakkul) and can alleviate the pangs of isolation by reminding us that we are never truly alone when we are connected to our Creator.

Source & Authentication

Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ passed by Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) while she was in a prayer mat. He said to her: 'O daughter of my father, what prevents you from offering your prayer?' or 'What stops you?' She said: 'O Messenger of Allah, the people's hearts are with the Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'If there is anything from the worldly life, then the servant asks Allah, the Mighty, the Blessed, for the abundance of provisions, and he asks Allah, the Mighty, the Blessed, for His good and he asks Allah, the Mighty, the Blessed, for the best end of the deeds, and he asks Allah, the Mighty, the Blessed, for His great mercy at the time of death, and he asks Allah, the Mighty, the Blessed, for forgiveness at the time of His accounting, and he asks Allah, the Mighty, the Blessed, for His intense fear of Him until he reaches the dwelling of the deception.' Then he said: 'O daughter of my father, you should say: O Ever-Living, O Self-Subsisting Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help. Rectify for me all of my affairs and do not entrust me to myself for the span of an eye-blink.' (Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3502. Graded as Hasan by al-Tirmidhi and authenticated by others)
