A Dua for Comfort and Companionship Through Service

Loneliness & Isolation
Hasan HadithSunan At-Tirmidhi 661

O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, to abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. I ask You to forgive me and have mercy on me. And when You intend to test a people, take me to Yourself without [my being tested]. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.

Allahumma inni as'aluka fi'la khayrat, wa tarkal munkarat, wa hubbal masakin, wa an taghfira li wa tarhamani, wa idha aradta fitnata qawmin fatawaffani ghayra maftun. As'aluka hubbaka, wa hubba man yuhibbuka, wa hubba 'amalin yuqarribuni ila hubbik.

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught this dua to his companion Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) when he asked him what supplication he should recite. The Prophet (peace be upon him) replied: 'Say: O Allah, I ask You to enable me to do good deeds, to abandon evil deeds, and to love the poor. I ask You to forgive me and have mercy on me. And when You intend to test a people, take me to Yourself without [my being tested]. I ask You for Your love, and the love of those who love You, and the love of deeds which bring me closer to Your love.' (Sunan At-Tirmidhi 661, Hasan)
