Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Seeking Refuge from Misleading Knowledge

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ.

O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.

When to Read

This dua is recited upon exiting the masjid. After seeking Allah's blessings and knowledge within the sacred space, it's a beautiful practice to ask for His continued favor and provision as you re-enter the world outside. This moment is particularly poignant for seeking protection from misleading knowledge, as the guidance received in the masjid equips us to discern truth from falsehood in the complexities of life.

How to Read

This is a concise dua, easy to recite as you step out of the masjid. Ideally, stand near the exit, say this prayer with sincere intention, and then proceed with your day, remembering to act upon the knowledge gained. Some scholars mention reciting this specifically upon exiting the Masjid Al-Nabawi in Medina, as it's a supplication taught by the Prophet ﷺ in that context. However, its general meaning of seeking Allah's bounty makes it applicable to exiting any place of worship.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught this dua to be recited upon leaving the masjid. While the immediate translation is 'O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty,' it encompasses a broader request for Allah's grace, blessings, and provision in all aspects of life. By asking for Allah's bounty, we are implicitly seeking His protection from anything that would divert us from His path, including misleading information or doubt. It's a recognition that all good things come from Allah, and His provision includes spiritual guidance and the ability to distinguish truth. The act of seeking this bounty right after leaving the masjid reinforces the idea of carrying that divine light and protection into our daily interactions.
