Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Seeking Allah's Guidance for a Contented Life

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 466

In the name of Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask of Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed devil.

Bismillahi, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma 'ismni minash-shaytanir-rajim.

When to Read

This dua is recited upon leaving the Masjid (mosque) after prayer or any other visit. It's a beautiful way to transition from the sacred space of worship back into the world, carrying the blessings of the Masjid with you.

How to Read

Recite this dua after you have completed your intention to leave the Masjid. It is customary to step out with your right foot first, mirroring the etiquette for entering with the left. Begin with the invocation of Allah's name and the blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ. The emphasis is on sincerely asking Allah for His immense grace and seeking His protection from all forms of evil, especially the whispers of Shaytan.

Virtues & Benefits

By reciting this dua, we actively seek Allah's continuous favor and guidance as we re-enter our daily lives. It's a recognition that true contentment and protection come only from Him. Asking for protection from Shaytan is crucial, as he constantly seeks to misguide us, especially after we have been in a state of closeness to Allah in His house.

Source & Authentication

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When any one of you goes out to the Masjid, let him say: Bismillahi, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma 'ismni minash-shaytanir-rajim.' (In the name of Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask of Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed devil.) And when he returns, let him say similarly: Bismillahi, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka an tu'idhani minash-shaytanir-rajim. (In the name of Allah, and blessings and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the accursed devil.)
