Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Seeking Protection from the Trials of the Grave

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 714

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This dua is recited when leaving the Masjid, after completing your prayers or intention to leave. It's a beautiful practice to ask Allah for His grace as you step back into the world, carrying the blessings of His house with you.

How to Read

Recite this dua once with sincerity as you exit the Masjid. It's customary to exit with your right foot first, having entered with your left, and to remember Allah's name. This dua is a continuation of that remembrance, a final plea for divine favor as you depart.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua focuses on seeking Allah's bounty, the act of remembering Allah upon leaving the Masjid is profound. It signifies that our connection with Allah is not confined to the Masjid walls. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us various supplications for leaving and entering places, all aimed at seeking Allah's protection and guidance. By asking for His bounty, we acknowledge that all good comes from Him, and we trust Him to provide and protect us as we re-engage with daily life, which includes the unseen trials, like those of the grave.

Source & Authentication

Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When one of you enters his mosque, let him send salutations upon the Prophet (ﷺ) and say: O Allah, open for me the gates of Your mercy. And when he leaves, let him say: O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.'
