Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Seeking Allah's Reward for Every Step Taken Towards Home

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This dua is recited when exiting the Masjid after having prayed or attended any Islamic gathering within it. It's a beautiful way to transition from a state of worship back into daily life, carrying the barakah (blessing) of the Masjid with you.

How to Read

Recite this supplication once as you are physically exiting the Masjid. It’s recommended to exit with your right foot first, mirroring the Sunnah for entering with the left. The intention should be to seek Allah's continued blessings and favor as you depart.

Virtues & Benefits

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this dua when exiting the Masjid. It's not just a simple request; it embodies a deep understanding of reliance on Allah. By asking for His bounty, we acknowledge that all provision and success come from Him alone. This specific dua, when made upon leaving the Masjid, is linked to the immense reward of every step taken towards home. The Prophet ﷺ said: 'When one of you exits the Masjid, let him say: 'O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.' This is because the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Verily, for every step you take, Allah will increase you in rank and expiate a sin.' (Sahih Muslim 713). This means each footstep leaving the Masjid towards your home becomes a means of drawing closer to Allah in status and purification from misdeeds.
