Dua for Leaving the Masjid: Seeking Allah's Protection from Evil Companionship

Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 713

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This dua is recited upon leaving the Masjid. It's a moment where we transition from the sacred space, a place of seeking closeness to Allah, back into the wider world. As we step out, we are surrounded by various influences, and sometimes, the very company we keep can lead us astray. This dua is our plea to Allah to bless our endeavors outside the Masjid and protect us from harmful associations.

How to Read

Recite this dua sincerely as you exit the Masjid. It's a brief but profound supplication. Focus on the meaning: asking Allah for His grace and provisions in the world outside. You can say it quietly to yourself as you take your first steps out of the mosque.

Virtues & Benefits

While this specific dua is a general supplication for bounty upon leaving the Masjid, its context of exiting a place of worship, especially after seeking Allah's pleasure, is significant. It's understood that seeking Allah's grace encompasses protection from all forms of evil, including the subtle dangers of bad companionship that can pull us away from our faith. By asking for Allah's bounty, we are implicitly asking for all the good He bestows, which includes guidance and protection from harmful influences. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ also taught us to be mindful of our companions, emphasizing that 'A person is on the religion of his close friend, so let one of you look into whom he takes as a close friend.' (Sunan Abi Dawud 4833, Hasan). This dua, therefore, aligns with that principle by asking for Allah's blessings that fortify us against negative influences.

Source & Authentication

Narrated Abu Hurairah: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When anyone among you finishes his prayer in his mosque, then let him say: 'O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.' And this is a dua that is after the prayer. It is also narrated from him that he said: 'When anyone of you enters the mosque, let him say: 'O Allah, open to me the doors of Your mercy.' And when he goes out, let him say: 'O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.''
