اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ
O Allah, I ask of You from Your bounty.
Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik
When to Read
This dua is recited upon leaving the Masjid after completing your prayer. It's a beautiful way to conclude your time in Allah's house, acknowledging that all provisions and blessings come from Him, and asking for His continued grace as you re-enter the world.
How to Read
Recite this sincerely as you are physically exiting the Masjid. It's a personal supplication, a direct request to your Creator. While there's no strict rule on raising hands or specific gestures, the intention and heartfelt seeking of Allah's bounty are key. Some scholars mention reciting it thrice, though the primary text doesn't specify this for this particular dua.
Virtues & Benefits
This dua is a profound acknowledgment of Tawhid (Oneness of Allah) and a reliance on His boundless grace. By asking for His bounty, you are essentially seeking His continued protection and provision as you face the challenges and opportunities outside the Masjid's sanctuary. It reminds us that even when we leave the place of worship, our connection with Allah and our seeking of His favor should continue. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us this supplication as a way to ensure that our spiritual state doesn't diminish upon leaving the blessed environment of the Masjid.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When any one of you recites Tashahhud, let him seek refuge in Allah from four things and say: "O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the punishment of Hell, the punishment of the grave, the ordeal of the Dajjal, and the trials of life and death." Then he should pray for himself and say whatever he wishes.' (Sahih Muslim 588). Regarding leaving the Masjid, another narration states: It was narrated from Fatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: 'When you leave the Masjid, recite: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.' (Sahih Muslim 494)
