Narrated Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) returned to Medina after his expedition to Tabuk, he addressed the people. He said: 'O people! Verily, the most excellent Jihad is the pilgrimage (Hajj) performed perfectly.' Then he said: 'The best of your days is the Day of 'Arafah. The best of what you say and the best of your supplications on that day is what I and the Prophets before me have said: 'There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs praise, and He is capable of all things.' And the best of what you say on the day of sacrifice is: 'There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. To Him belongs sovereignty and to Him belongs praise, and He is capable of all things.' The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever says this seeking the pleasure of Allah, Allah will forgive him his sins, those that have passed and those that are yet to come.' A man asked: 'O Messenger of Allah, what is the best deed?' He said: 'To give food to others and to return the greeting of peace to those whom you know and those whom you do not know.' He then said: 'O 'Abdullah, if you were to live for a short time, perhaps you would live until some people go out for a journey with their families and herds, and they would reach a place to encamp, and they would say: 'O Allah, we have come to You seeking the provision of the morrow and the provision of the journey.' And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.'
