Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSahih Muslim 494

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This dua is recited specifically when leaving the Masjid. It's a beautiful practice to ask Allah for His grace and provision as you depart from His house, carrying the blessings of your prayer and remembrance with you into the world.

How to Read

It is sunnah to exit the Masjid with your left foot first after reciting this dua. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ taught us to do the opposite when entering, so the principle is to start with the right foot when entering places of honor and goodness, and with the left when exiting.

Virtues & Benefits

Reciting this dua upon leaving the Masjid is a way of continuing to seek Allah's blessings even after the formal act of worship has ended. It reminds us that all provision and favor comes from Allah alone. The Prophet ﷺ taught this specific dua when leaving, emphasizing the ongoing need for Allah's grace as we re-enter our daily lives, which may contain challenges and opportunities.

Source & Authentication

Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you enters my Masjid, let him send Salah (invoke blessings) upon the Prophet (peace be upon him) and say: 'Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik' (O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy). And when he leaves, let him say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik' (O Allah, I ask You from Your bounty).' And when he said this, he would depart with his left foot.
