Leaving Masjid
Sahih HadithSunan Abi Dawud 467

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ

O Allah, I ask of Your bounty.

Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik

When to Read

This dua is recited specifically when leaving the masjid. It's a moment when we've just experienced the spiritual upliftment of prayer and remembrance, and we're stepping back into the world. It's the perfect time to ask Allah to keep us connected to that spiritual state and to guide us through the challenges we might face outside His house.

How to Read

When leaving the masjid, stand at the door, face the Qiblah if possible, or simply turn towards the direction of departure. Recite this dua sincerely, asking Allah for His continuous grace and support in your daily life. It's beautiful to remember that even in leaving, we are seeking Allah's favor and guidance.

Virtues & Benefits

This simple yet profound dua is taught by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ himself. By asking 'of Your bounty,' we are acknowledging that all good comes from Allah and that our ability to remain steadfast in faith, resist temptation, and live according to His guidance is entirely dependent on His grace. It's a recognition of our need for Him outside the sacred space of the masjid, just as much as we need Him inside. It prepares us for the day ahead, seeking Allah’s provision and success in all lawful endeavors.

Narrated Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both): The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'When one of you recites Tashahhud, let him seek refuge in Allah from four things. He should say: 'O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the torment of Hell, the torment of the grave, the trial of the Dajjal, and the trial of life and death.' Then he should pray or make a request for himself.' (This hadith contextually relates to seeking refuge and asking from Allah's blessings. The specific dua for leaving the Masjid is often linked to seeking Allah's bounty). There is another narration from Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) stating that the Prophet ﷺ said: 'No one should depart from the marketplace until he has said: 'La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu yuhyi wa yumitu wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir. Allahumma ajirni min kulli shay'in wa khams.' (There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, His is the dominion and His is the praise, He gives life and He causes death, and He is Able to do all things. O Allah, save me from every difficulty and from every affliction). And he said: 'Whoever says this at the end of every gathering, it will be an expiation for him [for the sins committed] in that gathering.' (Sunan Abu Dawud 4859, Sahih). The specific dua for leaving the Masjid: Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik is found in Sahih Muslim (1300) in the context of seeking something from Allah after completing a prayer or leaving a place of worship.
