In the name of Allah, and peace and blessings be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from the accursed Satan. O Allah, help me to remember You, to thank You, and to worship You in the best way.
Bismillahi, was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah. Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik. Allahumma 'ismni minash-shaytanir-rajim. Allahumma a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik.
When to Read
This dua is recited upon leaving the Masjid after having prayed there. As you step out, seeking Allah's continued blessings for your day, this supplication is particularly apt for invoking peace and harmony not just for yourself, but for your community and neighborhood. It’s a moment to carry the sanctity of the Masjid outwards.
How to Read
Recite this dua aloud or in a low voice as you exit the Masjid, preferably after completing your prayers. Begin with 'Bismillah' (In the name of Allah) and acknowledge the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ with 'was-salatu was-salamu 'ala Rasulillah'. The rest of the dua is a beautiful series of requests to Allah. You can pause slightly between each sentence to reflect on its meaning.
Virtues & Benefits
This powerful dua encompasses several profound requests. Asking for Allah's bounty ('as'aluka min fadlik') opens doors to provision and success in lawful ways. Seeking protection from Satan (''ismni minash-shaytanir-rajim') is a shield against his whispers and temptations that can lead to discord and negativity in our lives and communities. Most importantly, the plea for help to remember, thank, and worship Allah beautifully ('a'inni 'ala dhikrika wa shukrika wa husni 'ibadatik') elevates our entire existence, naturally fostering a disposition that desires peace, gratitude, and good conduct towards others, thereby contributing to a harmonious neighborhood.
Source & Authentication
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'When one of you enters a Masjid, let him send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ and say: 'Allahumma iftah li abwaba rahmatik.' (O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.) And when he leaves, let him send blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ and say: 'Allahumma inni as'aluka min fadlik.' (O Allah, I ask You of Your bounty.)' This hadith, as narrated by Muslim, contains a longer version which includes asking protection from Satan and help in worship, as provided in the main entry.
